Today I visited the doctor for my 20 week checkup and anatomy scan. It's hard to believe we have made it to the half way point in this pregnancy already! It was so fun to see our baby and examine the internal organs and bones. Everything looks perfect and baby is measuring right on target! We decided before the sonogram that we wanted to keep the gender a surprise and thankfully baby cooperated...although apparently the sonographer knows. I guess her eyes are quicker than ours.
I am in awe of God's creation. The human body truly is amazing. I still find it hard to believe my body is playing host to a tiny human being complete with a brain, a heart, a spine, fingers, toes and everything else it needs. Seeing our little one is such a great reminder that we were designed by a divine Creator with a specific purpose. I am overwhelmed with joy that God chose Scott and me to raise this child.
Here are a couple of pictures of Baby Aldrich.

How far along? 20 weeks 1 day
Total weight gain? 9 lbs
Maternity Clothes? I have one pair of maternity jeans that fit but for the most part maternity clothes are still too big. I can no longer button my work pants but thankfully a friend let me borrow a couple of Be Bands which work for now. I also have several dresses and tops with an empire waist that accomodate my expanding waistline.
Sleep? I sleep great! I purchased a body pillow a few weeks ago and started sleeping on my side. This has been an adjustment since I am naturally a back sleeper; which at this point is not comfortable and also not recommended.
Movement? I have felt movement sporadically since 14 weeks however it has been so faint that I could never tell for sure if it was baby or just gas. Finally this week I have been feeling little jabs regularly throughout the day. The sonographer confirmed my suspicion today that I have an anterior placenta which means the placenta is below my belly button and thus making it more difficult to feel those tiny kicks. She assured me that within a few weeks once baby weighs at least a pound (currently weighs 12 oz) I will feel all those little movements.
And for fun here is the most recent bump picture. This is me on July 4th at 19 weeks.
